We're looking for a Committee Chair and volunteers to join our Green Thumbs Committee—a dedicated group that helps keep the front of our building looking beautiful and welcoming all year round.
Tasks include:
Planting, weeding, and mulching
General upkeep and beautification of the front area
Seasonal planter displays (Fall, Winter, and Spring)
No gardening experience required—just a willingness to lend a hand and a love for keeping our space vibrant!

Chalk the Walk
🎨 Chalk the Walk – Get Creative with Us! 🖍️
Join us on August 20th from 10:00–11:00 AM (or anytime that works for you) to help "Chalk the Walk" with positive messages and drawings to welcome students on their first day of school! Chalk will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. Let’s brighten the sidewalks and start the school year with encouragement and smiles! **Liberty (the WES mascot) will be there from 10-10:30AM!

Fundraising (VOLUNTEERS NEEDED)
🌟 Join Our New PTO Fundraising Committee! 🌟
We’re excited to launch a new year-round Fundraising Committee to help support student events, classroom needs, building improvements, library resources, and more! This is a great opportunity to get involved, meet other families, and make a real impact at our school.
Committee Structure
2 parents per grade level (K–5)
2 Co-Chairs
Any PTO Board Member (in addition to parent slots)
1–2 Teachers (to give input on fundraiser feasibility and ideas)
Note: Chairs and Board members do not count toward the 2 parent representatives per grade level.
Timing
This is a year-round committee that begins forming at the end of each school year to prepare for the next.
Incoming Kindergarten parents will be invited to join in August, once the school year begins.
Why This Committee Matters
This model helps address several ongoing challenges:
Having enough funds to support PTO events
Gets newer parents involved in PTO early
Expands our core volunteer team
Brings in teacher voices to guide practical, school-friendly fundraisers
Allows us to run larger-scale fundraisers beyond just Read-a-Thon

Walk to School
Get ready to walk, bike, or roll to school on Tuesday, October 1st for our annual Walk to School Day! Join students, families, and staff as we celebrate healthy habits and a fun start to the day.
🏅 The classroom with the highest participation will win the Golden Shoes Award – so encourage your classmates to join in!
🎉 A large banner will be outside the school for all participants to sign their names and show their school spirit.
✨ All participating students will receive a special sticker to celebrate their effort!

Original WORKS
🎨 Original Works Fundraiser is Back! 🖌️
WES has been partnering with Original Works for several years to bring you a unique, art-based fundraising opportunity using your child's amazing creativity!
During ART class, students will create special projects that can be turned into keepsakes. Soon after, an Original Works order form will be sent home with your child's masterpiece!
You’ll have the chance to order their artwork printed on all kinds of fun and useful items — like mugs ☕, bags 🎒, notebooks 📓, shirts 👕, and more!
This fundraiser kicks off in late October. All orders will be delivered before Holiday Break 🎁 — just in time for perfect, personalized gifts for family and friends!

Roller Skating P.E. Unit (Volunteer Signup Coming Soon)
Roller Skating in PE: March 9–27 🛼
Get ready to roll! Our roller-skating unit will take place from March 9th through March 27th, and it’s always a favorite among students.
Younger grades will learn to skate using quad skates.
Upper grades will advance their skills with inline skates.
Students will learn how to stand, glide, skate, and stop safely.
The interior of the gym will be set up for practice using foam mats and "skate helpers" for support. More confident skaters will have the opportunity to skate around the outside of the gym for more space.
To help ensure every student gets the most out of their skating time, we’ll need multiple volunteers at ALL grade levels to assist with:
Putting on skates
Helping with wrist guards and helmets
⏰ Class time is short, so this extra help makes a big difference!

Teacher Appreciation Week (VOLUNTEERS NEEDED)
🎉 Teacher Appreciation Week at WES 🍎
Teacher Appreciation Week is a special time each year when we come together to celebrate the incredible educators who make a difference in our children’s lives every single day. Held annually during the first full week of May (Monday through Friday), this week is dedicated to honoring the teachers and staff who work tirelessly to keep the flame of learning alive through their selfless dedication and unwavering support.
Last year, we had some hootin’ and hollerin’ fun as we showed our appreciation for the amazing WES staff! The week was packed with celebration, including a delicious breakfast 🥞, a catered lunch 🥗, sweet treats and desserts 🍪, raffle prizes 🎁, thoughtful thank-you gifts, and so much more. Thanks to the generosity of over 30 local donors, we were able to make it a truly unforgettable week.
Williamsburg is a wonderful place to be, and that’s largely because of the dedicated teachers and staff who pour their time, energy, and heart ❤️ into our students every day.

Our students have worked hard all year — now it’s time to PLAY!
The Sports Finale is a full day of outdoor fun and games where students celebrate the end of the year with their classmates.
🎯 Kids are grouped into small teams and rotate through exciting activities.

🏃 Patriot Run/Basket Raffle
Hosted by our 4th grade students, the Patriot Run is a fundraiser for their Outdoor Ed trip in Fall 2026. Bring the whole family out for a 1mile run/walk around WES.
Not running? No problem - The Patriot Run will also feature basket raffles filled with amazing prizes!

Celebrating our student leaders
Our fifth graders have led by example all year, showing younger students what it means to be a true WES Patriot. Now it’s their turn to celebrate with a special graduation picnic on the last day of school.
This event includes:
🎲 Games
🍔 Food
📝 Class questionnaires
👕 Matching t-shirts for all students
All 5th grade parents are welcome to attend!
